Lake Forest Church, in partnership with the Children’s Impact Network (CIN), is excited for you and your family to step away from the everyday and into a powerful mission of shared purpose and unconditional love in Pena Blanca, Honduras. This trip is uniquely designed for families who are ready to make a significant, hands-on contribution. Together, you will experience the joy of connecting with former orphans who have found a safe home and a loving family; find meaningful roles playing and mentoring & help with vital infrastructure and development projects at the orphanage site.

The Honduras Life Center is home to children who have been rescued from abuse, abandonment and neglect. They now have a loving family that points them to Jesus. We have witnessed lives transformed because of God’s restoration & healing power- you are a vital part of it all. In Honduras, your team will be given a greatest need project at the Life Center. Part of your trip costs goes into this project to continue making the life center a loving home built for life change. Projects will vary depending on the greatest needs but it can be anything from painting to cleaning to a construction project. Beyond the home, your family will partner directly with the local church on "Project Impact," an essential prayer and outreach program that delivers food, clean drinking water, and spiritual hope to marginalized communities. Furthermore, you will jointly participate in "Sidewalk Sunday School," our lively, mobile children’s ministry where your family can use games, music, skits, and a shared love for soccer to bring the gospel and much-needed fun to children in surrounding neighborhoods.

Weather: Honduras is very humid and tends to rain most evenings. Afternoon temperatures can reach into the low 90’s and in the evenings can be mid 70’s. However, make sure to always bring a jacket because every-once in a while there will be a strange weather drop and you always want to be prepared. A rain jacket is always a must.
Water Safety: Tap water is not safe to drink or use for brushing teeth. The hotel provides safe drinking water and two bottles per day for dental hygiene.
Connectivity: While you are serving in Honduras, it is important to prepare for limited connectivity and a break from your typical digital routine. You will not have consistent Wi-Fi throughout your trip, and while the hotel where the team stays does offer internet access, it is often spotty and cannot be relied upon for regular communication. Because of this, we ask that you notify your loved ones prior to your arrival in Honduras that you will be largely disconnected for the duration of the week. To keep your friends and family involved in your journey, encourage them to follow Children’s Impact Network on social media, where updates will be posted regularly so they can see the incredible work your team is doing and the lives being touched through your service.
Vaccines & Health Precautions: To ensure your health and safety while serving in Honduras, we recommend consulting your physician before travel to confirm you are physically fit for the trip and up to date on all routine and travel-specific vaccinations, including Tetanus, Hepatitis A and B, and Typhoid. Because we will be working in communities where health risks and exposure to parasites or diseases are unknown, maintaining strict hygiene is essential; please wash your hands thoroughly before and after every activity, avoid sharing food or drinks, and use insect repellent at all times to protect against mosquito-borne illnesses. By taking these personal precautions and seeking professional medical advice, you help mitigate the inherent health risks associated with international mission work in a tropical environment.
Money: Just about everything is covered during your stay in Honduras. However, you will want to bring spending money for a few things: Church offering, souvenirs, any extra snacks, anything you would like at the airports, etc. We do not need to exchange money, as everywhere we will go will accept US dollars. An amount of spending money to bring is a personal choice depending on how much you are hoping to bring back. To give an idea—a bag of Honduran roasted coffee is $5. This is a great gift that many people like to bring to their supporters, etc. Most people will choose to bring $50-$200 for trip spending money. The Honduran currency is known as “Lempiras.” The exchange rate is approximately 23 Lempiras to $1.
Giving Money: We ask that you refrain from handing out money for a few reasons. One, for your own safety. Two, everything we do is in partnership with a local church. Anytime you feel like you would like to bless someone, we ask that you would speak to a CIN staff member so that we can let you know the best way to go about this. We always want to make sure that we are coming alongside a community and church and partnering together to bring the message of Jesus to the people they are ministering to day in and day out.
Interaction with the children should always emphasize protecting their healing process.
During the family dinner, and also the soccer night, it is always a good idea to bring some fun activities to do with the kids! People have brought slime to make outside, bean-boozle challenges, worship or game nights, simple crafts and more! As a team, you are welcome to think of a fun and simple activity you can bring to show or teach the kids. This is always a blast and a fun way to make a fun memory together! If you are unsure if an idea will be possible, please reach out to your team leader who can check with the mission team coordinator.
In Honduras, your team will be given a greatest need project at the Life Center. Part of your trip costs goes into this project to continue making the life center a loving home built for life change. Projects will vary depending on the greatest needs but it can be anything from painting to cleaning to a construction project. You will know your exact project closer to the time of your trip, but please plan to bring clothes you do not mind ruining and good work gloves.

Did you know that at CIN, we have child sponsorship opportunities where you can have an ongoing relationship with a child at our life center? Many like to choose a child to sponsor before their trip so they can tell them face to face once they arrive.
